Dear Friends,
This piece had me in tears in a beautiful way. (From Amanda Magee)
“I came face to face with more emotional reserves in her than I have and I was not surprised, which shocked me. Right up until the moment we were zipping our coats, she stayed with him.”
My daughter continually surprises me with her empathy. This essay reflects the incredible ability of our children to draw upon inner strength we can only dream of.
This article made me want to make my bed. (From The Happiness Project)
“…surprisingly, whenever I ask people what resolutions they’ve tried, and that make them happier, ‘Make my bed’ is the most common resolution that’s mentioned.”
The concept of broken windows is interesting. I will admit, when I make my bed, everything feels a little more ordered. My other broken windows are stacks of paper to deal with, and the biggest broken window of all…my car. I.cannot.seem.to.keep.it.clean.
This essay about a marriage on the rocks caused quite a stir back in 2009. (From New York Times)
“But wait. This isn’t the divorce story you think it is. Neither is it a begging-him-to-stay story. It’s a story about hearing your husband say ‘I don’t love you anymore’ and deciding not to believe him. And what can happen as a result.”
This story crashed the NYT website multiple times and inspired a very well-received book. Long-term relationships are not easy. I’ve known a few people with the kind of courage this author displays; it is something for us all to consider when the proverbial fan gets hit.
I send you much love. Hug the people you care about.
Blessings,
Dana
I can’t tell you how much it means to have you mention that post. It was such a special moment and in retelling it and now in revisiting it here, I am reminded of the incredible compassion that we are capable of. Thank you again. Off to check out your husband’s music. 🙂
Hi Amanda, I’m so glad you found my post, and my blog! Thank you for the beautiful piece you wrote. All the best to you.
Wow, that was a great piece, “Those Aren’t Fighting Words, Dear,” in the NYT!
Thanks for commenting, Joanna!
Great links! My car too. Disaster! 😉
🙂 I’ve been making an effort to make my bed. Doesn’t always work, but it’s better than nothing!
